Wienertanz No 2 Recording Artist Victor Schiøler © Victor Schiøler holds a prominent position in the history of Danish grammophone records. He was a pioneer in this field, being the first Danish pianist to make records. In the area of vocal music Denmark was early to make recordings, and the list of Danish singers appearing on records before 1920 is long. The number of records and copies sold were large too. Instrumcntal music only appeared later. Recordings were fewer and the numbers of copies too. I think Victor Schiøler’s Chopin record from 1924 and his Friedman record from 1925 are the einstances of this genre in Denmark. He was also the first Danish pianist recording instrumental concerts, and his Tchaikovsky piano concerto in B flat minor with the Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carl v. Garaguly from 1945 is the very first Danish rccording of a piano concerto. It became extremely populur and sold in large numbers, so much that Victor Schiøler recorded it again in 1950, this time with the conductor Erik Tuxen.
