Clawhammer Banjo Bridge

I play zither banjo and have done so for the past 60 odd years. I have used Clifford Essex bridges since they were first re-introduced and as far as I am concerned they are easily the best on the market, in some cases completely transforming the instrument. Previously I’ve had to import from the USA at twice the price. I see some CE bridges are seemingly exactly the same as those I’ve seen in an 1895 catalogue, and believe me, those old timers knew what constituted a decent bridge (I have used some). My most recent acquisition is a Clifford Essex 5/8 clawhammer bridge for nylon strings. I use Nylgut which suits my wallet best. The banjo is an 1895 W Temlett tuned fA*FAC. Once again I would describe the outcome as Excellent! The raised groove for the 5th string is a brilliant idea. For me it makes everything in clawhammer banjo so much easier and relaxed. If you play clawhammer, especially if you’re just starting out, give these bridges a try regardless of the kind of banjo you have. You may find that the whole process has suddenly become a whole new heap of joy. Simples! I would recommend these bridges without reservation. Black Jake of Norwich, England.
